Michelle Dockery Wears TOM FORD for Harper’s Bazaar September 2012

A few months ago, a friend of mine convinced me to watch the first 2 episodes of Downton Abbey.  She swore that I would fall in love with the period-drama and she was right.  I ended up watching every episode of the series in the next week and am now eagerly awaiting its return.  There are so many things to love about the series.  Everything from the costumes to the soapy drama to the phenomenal actingincluding Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countessis pure gold.

Personally, I was instantly captivated by actress Michelle Dockery’s portrayal of Lady Mary Crawley.  Lady Mary is an extremely complicated character and Michelle does an outstanding job bringing her to life.  Imagine how thrilled I was to see her featured in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar wearing TOM FORD!  The black velvet and sheer floor-length gown, belt and shoes in the image below are among my favorite pieces from the Fall/Winter 2012 collection.

Dramatically decadent, no?

Believe it or not, this isn’t even my favorite shot from the spread!

Lensed by photographer Benjamin A. Huseby and styled by Karen Langley, the shoot features Michelle wearing a number of other designers, including J. Mendel, R. Lauren and Etro. Check it out online now or pick up the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar on newsstands now.

Sneak Peak: TOM FORD Beauty Fall 2012 Collection (Pre-order NOW!)

It’s almost time for the release of the new Fall 2012 TOM FORD Beauty Collection! Although the official news release has not been released yet, information has slowly been making its way online the past month or so.  Products should be available at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman in September, but if you are as inpatient as I am you are probably dying to hear some details.

I’ll update this post as I get more information, but here is what  can tell you so far.

Neiman Marcus describes the upcoming mini-collection in the September issue of The Book.  They say that the “limited-edition makeup collection explores the mesmerizing depth and versatility of color, from enchanting floral pinks and lavenders to bewitching shades of black cherry and emerald. It can create a spectrum of captivating looks, from delicate and romantic to hedonistic and hypnotizing.”

So far, the following products have been ID’ed:

COSMETICS

TOM FORD BEAUTY Nail Lacquers ($30): I am dying to get my hands on these for the names alone.  According to Ford, “these colors have a twist of the perverse to them.

  • Dominatrix (pre-order: Saks)
  • Minx (pre-order: Saks)

TOM FORD BEAUTY Cheek Color ($55):

  • Narcissist (pre-order: Saks)

TOM FORD BEAUTY Lip Color ($45):

FRAGRANCES

A total of five new fragrances are also being released this fall.

Private Blend Jardin Noir Collection (September launch, 1.7oz/$205 and 8.5oz/$495): The new collection “explores the forbidden sides of four of perfumery’s most treasured blossoms, narcissus, hyacinth, rose and lily. Convention is abandoned and unexpected ingredients converge with bewitching and intoxicating results. Iconic flowers fall open, dropping their innocent facades to reveal the subversive beauty and fierce elegance they normally keep hidden.”

  • Café Rose (pre-order: Saks): three different rose essences blended with exotic spices and dark coffee. Other notes include saffron and black pepper. Rose and coffee? Color me intrigued.
  • Jonquille de Nuit (pre-order: Saks): This is a “yellow floral” based on narcissus. Top notes consist of wild Alpine cyclamen, acacia and angelica seeds. I scored a sample of this and am wearing it today and I have to say it is quickly growing on me.
  • Lys Fume (pre-order: Saks): lily mixed with mandarin and pink peppercorn. Other notes include nutmeg and turmeric. It’s described as a  tropical white lily fragrance with a touch of vanilla.
  • Ombre de Hyacinth (pre-order: Saks): green hyacinth is blended with earthy galbanum and violet leaf. Other notes are magnolia leaf and musk.

New Signature Men’s Fragrance (October launch, 1.7 oz/$90 and 3.4 oz/$125): This is TOM FORD”s first signature men’s fragrance release since 2009.

  • TOM FORD NOIR: notes include bergamot, verbena, caraway, baie rose, violet flower, black pepper, nutmeg, iris, geranium, rose, clary sage, opoponax, amber, patchouli, vetiver, civet and vanilla

Again, I don’t know exact release dates for the products yet, but I know that it will be sometime in September for 99% of the collection.  I will let you know as soon as I know for sure.

So what do you think?  Anything calling your name?

I want one of each, please!

One of the most frustrating things (for me) about being a huge fan of the TOM FORD brand is the fact that it is impossible to find the fashion line in Cleveland. I know that is part of the brand’s overall appeal, but since I don’t get to visit NYC as often as I would like, I don’t get to check out the clothing and accessories as often as I would like.

When it comes to the accessories in particular, I often covet certain bags and shoes, but  rarely have the chance to indulge myself. Instead, I am often forced to covet from afar, and hope that the items I love are still in stock when I finally do have the chance to check them out in person.  Thankfully, I can at least find the Beauty and Eyewear Collections online, but my TOM FORD shopping has been limited to those choices.

Until now.

Both Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman have started carrying a limited selection of TOM FORD accessories–including womens and mens bags and shoes–online.

Please hold while I do a little happy dance.

Unfortunately for me, the one piece I am coveting more than anything is already sold out on Bergdorf Goodman’s site. Isn’t she gorgeous?!  So sad. Fingers crossed a restock is in the future.

TOM FORD Autumn/Winter 2012 Ad Campaign (Hi-Res)

First, I know I have been MIA for some time now and I apologize for my absence.  When blogging isn’t your full-time job, real life has a tendency to get in the way at times!  I hope to get all caught up with TOM FORD news this weekend and will share it here for you as well.

Now the good stuff.

Today, I am back with some exciting news for you!  Images from the Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 ad campaign have dropped recently and can be seen on the brand website.  Kati Nescher and Jonas Kesseler star in the shoot which was, as usual, lensed by the designer himself.

I am not sure if this is the complete shoot, but I’ll update you when I learn more. For now, check the images out below!

What do you think of the images?  And what do you think of the striking scarlett version of Gwyneth’s Paltrow’s Oscar dress?  Amazing, no?

TOM FORD’s Lavender Palm: California AND The Adriatic in a Bottle

I’ve always been fascinated by the way a particular fragrance can transport us to a different place or time. Our emotional response comes from the way the mind forms an association between a specific scent and certain moments in our history. If it’s a strong connection, all you need to do is close your eyes, inhale, and suddenly you’ll be awash in memories.

For me, the smell of lavender always evokes memories of family visits to the Adriatic Coast.  My parents were born and raised near the Adriatic Sea, so whenever we would visit family it was an amazing experience for me.  The grandeur of the sea, the aroma of olive and fig trees, and the miles and miles of vineyards and lavender fields… there is nothing in the world more calming to me. Scents like Neroli Portifino remind me of the sea itself, but lavender… lavender brings me back to the Mediterranean countryside.

Which is why I knew I had to try TOM FORD’s Lavender Palm Private Blend Eau de Parfum.

I first heard about Lavender Palm back in February of 2011.  It was a bit of enigma back thenavailable solely at Tom Ford’s newest boutique on Rodeo Drive and priced at a whopping $950 for 250 ml, I thought it would forever be out of my league. Luckily for me, the amazing chrome-packaging was changed (and the price adjusted accordingly) and it went into wide release in January 2012. Even more lucky for me?  The generous folks at TOM FORD Beauty recently sent me a sample to try. Tom Ford Beauty: thank you, as always!

According to TOM FORD, Lavender Palm is “Herbaceous. Clean. Stylish. This sparkling eau de cologne is Tom Ford’s take on the free-spirited ethos and chic elegance that evokes California. The seductive interplay of two varieties of lavenderLavandin and Lavender Absoluteforms the heart of this captivating fragrance as bright citrus notes layered with moist palm leaf accord, clary sage, sensual woods and smooth tonka bean brilliantly elevate the earthy lavender note into a surprisingly refined star.”

Does it remind me of California?  Yes. I am sure some will refer to Lavender Palm as “Eau de Malibu” or “Eau  de Palm Springs” because it definitely evokes the state’s “sparkling sunlight, natural blossoms, and expansive coastlines.”  It is a crisp, fresh, lavender scent softly enveloped with citrus and herbal elements and just a touch of woodsy accords.  It is vibrant, but it isn’t overpowering as lavender scents so often can be. This one is creamy. Lush. Slightly salty. Elegant. Sophisticated. Sensual.

But for me, Lavender Palm is the Adriatic Coast in a bottle.

Created by perfumer Yann Vasnier, at the heart of Lavender Palm’s unique beauty is the delicate interplay of Lavandin and Lavender Absolute.  This isn’t your grandmother’s lavender perfume… the top notes are crisp and clean and anything but overwhelming.  The brilliant Lavandin merges with a beautiful citrus blend of lemon and bergamot for a start reminiscent of the sparkling seaside.  One spritz and I can close my eyes and smell the clean salty air, hear the gentle roll and splash of the surf, and feel the warm sand under my feet.

But as much as I love the opening of Lavender Palm, the middle notes are what have me completely addicted.  Here, the introduction of Lavender Absolute heightens the floral aspect of the scent while avoiding the overwhelming sweetness that can overpower some lavender-based scents.  Vasnier accomplishes this by using palm leaf accord and clary sage to enhance the herbal quality of the lavender while pink and white oleander and lime blossom give it a soft, sensual yet decidedly floral lift.

At this point I often find myself sniffing my own wrists with contentment.  I must look like an idiot to an outside observer, but it is just that good.   When I think about my ancestral home, I think about the olive and fig trees that decorate the land. I think about the sea, glittering like a jewel on the horizon. I think about the vineyards and the sweet smell of wine.  I think about lavender fields that are peppered with wild rosemary and salvia (aka – clary sage!).  This is why Lavender Palm smells like home to me.  It’s like Tom Ford took all of my favorite fragrances in the world and bottled them together to create the perfect fragrance.

Oh wait.

HE DID.

And it’s amazing.

Finally, the dry down is slightly more woodsy with the vetiver and cedar coming into play. These are enhanced by the smoothness of the benzoin and tonka bean and warmth of olibanum and rich green moss to create a creamy finish with the faintest touch of lavender and the sea breeze.

As for the staying power? It’s nothing short of amazing.  I get a full 10 hours of wear and it lingers far beyond that… 24 hours later and the fragrance is still recognizable on my skin.

The bottom line?  Lavender Palm is the perfect lavender. It might be California in a bottle for you. It’s the Adriatic Coast in a bottle for me.  But without a doubt… it has secured a spot right next to my #1 Violet Blonde on my dresser!  It’s a unisex fragrance so it works for men and women, but in order for it to work on a man you’ll have to spray with a heavier hand. Otherwise it’s a great scent for the Spring and for cooler summer nights.

All I need now is Lavender Palm EDP in the glorious chrome packaging… I sense the 50ml will be in my future, despite the $250 price tag!

Lavender Palm (in the standard issue brown apothecary packaging) is available at your closest TOM FORD Beauty counter and online at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman MarcusSaks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom.
