Sheila Marquez wears TOM FORD for Harper’s Bazaar Spain

The TOM FORD Fall/Winter 2011 Womenswear Collection takes center stage in “Sueños de un Seductor/Dreams of a Seducer”, a striking editorial in the October 2011 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Spain.  The sexy shoot, lensed by photographer Rafael Stahelin and starring the beautiful Sheila Marquez, serves double duty as an introduction to Violet Blonde and includes commentary by Tom Ford himself.

Read on for the images (including one of Tom himself) as well as some translations!

“I tried every note of this new perfume on my own skin. I work on every product, every brush, every makeup… to be sure it’s perfect” – Tom Ford

” The Tom Ford Woman is elegant, with a strong sense of style, and looks for the best quality that money can buy”

“I don’t do perfumes for introverted women, ‘Violet Blonde’ is for a woman that is strong, sexy, powerful and sure of herself.”

“Lara Stone is Violet Blonde. The strength of her beauty lies in a rare irresistibly that is compelling, unique …”

“Orris is a captivating and carnal note, both opulent and sumptuous, which, together with the violet, embodies a tandem luxury.”

Kate Bosworth wears TOM FORD for InStyle, November 2011

The beautiful and talented Kate Bosworth is the latest woman to grace the pages of a magazine wearing some amazing pieces from the TOM FORD A/W 2011 Womenswear Collection—including a few knockouts I haven’t seen photographed for an editorial before!  She stars in a glorious 6-page spread in the November issue of InStyle magazine and not only does she look amazing—she also comments on each of the pieces she is wearing and delves into the topic of what it means to be a TOM FORD woman.

I am dying over this purple… want want WANT:

This look is probably my favorite from the shoot… so classic and yet so TOM FORD:

I think this is one of my favorite shoots featuring the Fall/Winter 2011 Womenswear Collection to date.

TOM FORD Santal Blush: A Sensual Sandalwood (Review)

When the news of the TOM FORD Beauty Collection first broke on WWD a few months back, one of the items that immediately caught my attention was Santal Blush Private Blend.   One of three new fragrances launching alongside the collection, it was described as a woody fragrance with notes of ylang ylang, cumin, cinnamon bark, carrot seed, jasmine, rose, cedarwood, Australian sandalwood, oud, musk, benzoin.   As someone who loves spicy, woody scents, and has a soft spot for sandalwood, it seemed like it was right up my ally.

When I received a package from TOM FORD Beauty and found a bottle of Santal Blush nestled inside (thank you TFB!), I could not believe my luck!

Some might say that, aesthetically, the Jasmin Rouge is the most striking of the three fragrances, but I disagree. I was immediately captivated by the beautiful simplicity of this bottle.  The transparent design was the perfect choice; it would have been a crime to hide the rich nude color of the fragrance behind anything else!  The gold plating adds the perfect amount of sexiness.

But let’s get to the heart of the matter: the fragrance itself.

The official description states that “TOM FORD SANTAL BLUSH is a mesmerizing, spicy wood oriental designed around the richly textured creaminess of Sandalwood, and contrasted with exotic Eastern spices, intoxicating florals, and sumptuous woods. This is a complex scent with a hypnotic and mysterious pull. Masala spices from India, Cinnamon Bark Oil Sri Lanka ORPUR™, Cumin Seed Oil, Fenugrec Absolute and Carrot Seed Oil, are enriched by a floral blend of Jasmine Absolute, Rose Absolute and Ylang Madagascar. An infusion of richly textured Sandalwood captives, Australian Sandalwood, Benzoin, Agarbois™ and Skin Musks, transport the scent to another level. A nude colored juice displayed in a transparent bottle, Santal Blush expresses a modern earthiness. It is as sensual as beautifully contoured nude skin.”

Here are my thoughts:  The first time I tried Santal Blush I actually thought I wasn’t going to like it.  At all.  The scent starts off almost overwhelmingly strong with initial notes that are very sharp and somewhat metallic… not the soft and creamy opening I expected of a sandalwood-based perfume.  I was truly disappointed.

Thankfully, I soon began to see it nuances.  The strong opening dissipates rather quickly.  After about 15 or 20 seconds, the fragrance becomes softer as some of the sweeter notes begin to unfold.   I actually breathed a sigh of relief at this point, because I knew it would be a keeper after all.

Once you get into the base notes the sensual and creamy sandalwood and spices finally become the star of the show.  And it is absolutely gorgeous.  The base is sensual yet soft – exactly what you expect from a sandalwood-based fragrance.  Eventually this gives way to a more woody drydown with hints of oud and leather which I also loved.

The bottom line?  It starts off loud, but after that initial burst of headiness, Santal Blush becomes everything you want in a sandalwood.  If you can get past the first 15 – 20 seconds, it’s a winner.  It has secured a spot right between Violet Blonde and Jasmin Rouge on my dresser!

Santal Blush is available at your closest TOM FORD Beauty counter and online at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and other fine retailers.

Kirsten Dunst in TOM FORD for Flare Magazine, November 2011

Image via FLARE Tumblr

The guipure 3D lace dress from Tom Ford’s A/W 2011 collection is a hot pick amongst stylist’s right now.  The gorgeous Emma Stone wore a sleeveless black version to the Crazy, Stupid, Love premiere a few months ago and Lady Gaga and Anna Dello Russo have been spotted in the white version.

Kirsten Dunst, photographed by Max Abadian, is the cover girl for the November issue of Flare Magazine.   Although she wears Giambattista Valli for the cover, these shots of the Tom Ford dress are my favorites.  Amazing, no?

Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett & TOM FORD: The Lady is a Tramp (Video)

Image via Gaga Daily

Back in August, news leaked of a new duet that Lady Gaga was recording with the legendary Tony Bennett for his Duets II album.   I shared my excitement here because Gaga was wearing one of my favorite designs from Ford’s F/W 2011 Collection – the Black Floral Chantilly Lace Evening Dress with Jet Detail.

The video for “The Lady Is A Tramp” was released a few days ago and not only is it a great watch/listen – it also highlights how beautiful this gown truly is.  Check it out below and let me know what you think!
